Product Questions
Q. Can I Defrag a Mac OS 9 volume in Mac OS X?
A. Yes, provided the volume has been setup with a Mac OS Extended HFS (plus) format.
Q. Can I Defrag My Boot Volume?
A. Yes, but any fragmented files which are in use by the operating system or other applications will be skipped (this usually only amounts to a handful of files though).
Q. Does Verify and Repair Volume also repair any physical media defects?
A. No. To scan for any media errors you will need to run the Scan and Repair Bad Sectors tool.
Q. Why is the Repair Volume option disabled for my selected volume?
A. Repair requires the selected volume be writable and it must be Mac OS (HFS) formatted. Additionally, the volume must be unmounted during the repair sequence, thus, you cannot repair a startup volume while you are booted from it. To repair your boot (startup) volume, you will need to boot from another hard disk which has a Mac OS installation and run DiskTools Pro. Or, you can boot from your Mac OS X Install CD and run Apple’s Disk Utility program (First Aid option).
Q. Can you use DiskTools Pro on a network volume?
A. No. DiskTools Pro requires disk drives to be physically attached to the computer you are using the software on.
Q. What types of volumes can DiskTools Pro work with?
A. DiskTools Pro can only work with HFS and HFS+ volumes.
Q. Can I schedule any of the utilities to run when I am away from my computer?
A. DiskTools Pro allows you to schedule when to defrag, repair bad sectors or backup a volume (as often as you want). This means you can run these utilities every night when you are not working on your Mac so that your system will be optimized and safe each morning when you return for again.
Q. Can I run DiskTools Pro on more than one volume at a time?
A. Absolutely. Run DiskTools Pro on as many volumes as you want simultaneously. This will save you time from having to run tests or repair multiple volumes one at a time.
Q. What will happen if the power goes out on my Mac while running an important process in DiskTools Pro?
A. One of the features that make DiskTools Pro stand out from the rest is how it handles an important process, like defragmenting your files for example. Fragmented files are copied to a temporary location to be put back together again; once this is done the file is moved back whole once more. If a power outage occurs while this is happening your original fragmented file will most likely remain safe since the defragment process has not yet completed. In addition, since the rest of the files on your system are not being worked on at the same time, you won’t need to worry about your entire system getting wiped out.
Q. Doe DiskTools Pro support Mac OS X 10.3.9?
A. Yes. DiskTools Pro supports Mac OS X 10.3.9 or greater.
Q. How can I uninstall DiskTools Pro?
A. DiskTools Pro provides an easy uninstaller. To uninstall DiskTools Pro, choose the “Uninstall this Software” option from the Advanced menu. Then just follow the instructions.
